ABOUT PROJECT

Memorial Dedication

More than 350,000 Australians have served in the RAAF over the last 100 years.

To honour the sacrifices and duty, a memorial was constructed on the parade ground at RAAF Base Point Cook in Melbourne, Victoria to mark the 100 years. This event dedicated the new memorial.  The project consisted of three parts:

  • A sunrise on-location mass accompanied by the RAAF band.
  • A commemorative event blending a memorial dedication and plaque unveiling, featuring aerial flyovers.
  • An evening gala featuring virtual presentations, on-screen entertainment, and celebratory dinner.

What We provided

Creating a Hybrid Spectacle: Merging Live Audience and Virtual Reach

Our Contributions Included:

To execute a hybrid event. The first component was to stage the event to the live audience at the parade ground. In addition, the camera capture was live-streamed and recorded for the RAAF channel for later viewing. NEXTGEN developed and presented an outdoor floor plan that would allow a beautiful and respectful live event experience with the creative use of multiple cameras.

  • After meticulously reviewing the memorial construction blueprint, we conducted a site visit to plan the production floor-plan. This included considering the COVID seating arrangement, camera angles, Air Force band riser placement, dual lectern positions, flypast coordination, VIP arrivals, generator placement, and adaptable audio design for varying weather.
  • The MC script’s development formed the basis for the event run sheet, outlining the proceedings sequence. Our team quickly grasped the traditional military event flow, ensuring familiarity with its intricacies.
  • Collaborating with the RAAF team, we harmonised branding and style elements, seamlessly integrating slides, graphics, and on-screen components in line with the centenary style and essential protocols.
  • For audio, we prioritized an unobtrusive setup, ensuring clear views of the expansive memorial while discreetly placing PA speakers off-camera.
  • Managing a complex 9-camera setup, our camera director handled 6 manned and 3 fixed cameras, integrated into the vMix system. This facilitated real-time mixing, overlays, video clips, and live streaming.
  • Our involvement extended to additional events over two days: a chapel service, post-memorial luncheon, and awards dinner, all flawlessly executed.
  • Through collaboration with the RAAF team and meticulous technical execution, we ensured a seamless and impactful commemoration across these significant days.
  • In all aspects, our collaboration with the RAAF team and our multifaceted technical execution ensured a seamless and impactful commemoration over the course of these significant days.

We really care about doing things great and making amazing moments happen. If you want to make your event even better, our team of experts is excited to work with you. Let’s work together to make your ideas come to life.
